Special Lunchtime Seminar: Chris Ryan: Thursday 27th March

24 March 2014

 Special Lunchtime Seminar:

Outstanding High School Researcher- Chris Ryan
Scientific Evidence for Medicinal Kawakawa?

Thursday 27th March, 12:30, (30min)
Liggins Seminar room 505-003

Chris Ryan, supervised by Dr John Taylor at the School of Biological Sciences, is all kinds of fabulous: he won a place on the RSNZ Realise the Dream programme at which he received the American Ambassador’s Outstanding Award, which will see him represent New Zealand at the INTEL Science & Engineering Fair in California in May 2014.

His project, funded by Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga, looked at the anti-inflammatory properties of the native plant Kawakawa, which is used in Māori medicine to treat all kinds of ailments – he wanted to know if there was any scientific evidence to back up the traditional evidence.

The results he obtained might just surprise you.

For his final award requirements, he needs to give a seminar to some scientific peers. His talk will only be 30 minutes, at maximum, and we would really appreciate your support in coming along, feel free to bring your lunch! We really want Chris to stay in science. For a bit of extra info – see below.

12:30pm, Liggins Seminar Room, this Thursday the 27th March.
