Science is an essential component of 21st century life. LENScience programmes will help you understand what science is and how science works. All programmes are linked to the New Zealand Curriculum and support preparation for NZQA assessments.
From providing food, shelter and clothing to issues of health, the environment and economics, science is intimately linked to the wellbeing of individuals, communities and society.
Growing up in the 21st century you need to know what science is and how you and your family can use science in your everyday life. As you enter adulthood, you will become a participant in the political life of your community and society. Understanding how to interpret scientific evidence is essential to us all as we participate in community and societal decision making on issues such as food sustainability, health, the environment, energy sources and the use of technologies.
Science is global – so you need to know about how scientists around the world work together to share ideas and information, answer questions, share eureka moments, and contribute to making a better world.
LENScience programmes will help you learn about who scientists are, how they work and why science is very important to you as a 21st century teenager. You will develop understanding of science concepts through exploring socio-scientific issues such as diabetes, obesity and the use of biotechnologies, from a local and global perspective.
You may or may not decide to become a scientist – but either way, you need to learn about science. Welcome to LENScience, we hope you enjoy your scientific journey of discovery.
